22 Months!

Gemma is 22 months old today! We are starting to plan for her second birthday party. How is this possible? Paul and I were saying the other day how it seems like just yesterday we were getting the baby room ready and going to prenatal appointments and classes. Gemma is definitely not a baby anymore! She gets more independent by the day! Here's what she's been up to the past month:

-Gemma now has 16 teeth (I think she was up to this number at 21 months, but I forgot to include it in the post)! We're just waiting for the 2 year molars now, but I think they're on their way. She has been chewing on things like crazy and trying to stuff her hands into the back of her mouth. She also asks for 'teeka' which is Teetha, homeopathic teething granules!

-A week ago today, we had our 18-24 month check with the public health nurse. She weighed Gemma at 13kg (28 pounds, 10 ounces), which is between the 75 and 90 percentiles, and she measured 90cm (2 feet, 11 inches). That's between the 90 and 95 percentiles. If she keeps going at this rate, she could be 6 feet tall! She wears 3 year/3T clothes.

-Of course, she didn't really do or say any of the things the nurse asked her to do at the check! Gemma does not like to perform on command! From my reports, the nurse said she doesn't have any concerns.

-Gemma counts to ten! We do this mostly when climbing the stairs up and down to our front door and to upstairs. She gets very excited after she reaches 10!

-She likes to sing 'Twinkle Twinkle', 'I Love You' (from Barney), and 'Soft Kitty' (from the Big Bang Theory- we've been singing it to her at bedtime for months).

-Gemma had another round of antibiotics a couple of weeks ago to clear up a sinus/chest infection with a cough that had been ongoing for a couple of weeks. It wasn't until after she was feeling better that we realised how miserable she must have been, as her mood improved immensely!

-We have been taking advantage of the nice days that we have here and there by going to different parks and playgrounds. Gemma loves being outside, and will often bring us our shoes, as if to say, 'Let's go!'

-Gemma loves trucks, buses, and diggers (any machinery basically) at the moment. We are on the lookout for these all of the time. She has a set of 'Things That Go' books, which she loves. It's quite funny to hear her say 'monster truck'! She still likes airplanes too!

-We've gotten back into our 'groove' with sleeping after being in Minnesota and Gemma being sick. She usually is in bed by 7pm, falls asleep shortly after, and sleeps until around 7am. Knock on wood! She takes one nap in the early afternoon, on average around an hour and a half long.

-Eating is hit and miss. Some days she eats like a horse, other days she hardly eats a thing. I've been reassured by other parents that this is very typical of a toddler, so hopefully it won't last too long. Favourite foods are cheese, bananas, strawberries, and weetabix cereal. She loves French fries too, but she doesn't get them very often!

-Gemma still likes to give hugs and kisses, and she has started to push Paul's and my heads together to kiss. She also gives the 'big girl' in the mirror in the hall a kiss before bed every night!

-I could go on and on, as it seems there is something new everyday, but I won't bore you any more! Here are some pics of our sweet, independent, funny little girl from the past month:

Pretending to talk on the phone- she usually asks for 'auntie' or 'Ya Ya' (Freya)

Oh!

This is as close as she'd get to the 'neigh neigh'!

After the trip to the doctor, I let her ride on this while we were waiting for her prescription at the local shopping centre. She still talks about the 'tractor'!

This past Sunday we went swimming at the hotel/gym nearby. She loved the kids pool and the big pool!
