11 Months!

Only one month until Gemma's first birthday! This past Wednesday Gemma was 11 months old! I think time is going faster and faster, especially now that I'm back at work. I am very lucky that I am working three days a week (Wednesday to Friday) until at least May 2014. We've also been very lucky that Paul's mom (and sister for one week) are taking care of Gemma for the month of July here at our place. It's been a very nice way to transition back to work. Gemma will start creche (daycare) in August. She had her first hour of adaptation there yesterday, and she did great. She's there at the moment for about 3 hours today. But, back to the subject of the post! At 11 months, Gemma:

-Is on the move all of the time! She continues to crawl very fast, can pull up to stand at almost anything, and is cruising along furniture. She continues to love to climb too. She can climb up our entire flight of steps in no time, and the other day I had my back turned for a second when I had the dishwasher open, and she climbed up onto the open door.

-Discovered that she can stand up in her crib when we were visiting Paul's parents on June 17th. Since then she has chewed a chunk out of one of the top rails of her crib at home. Don't worry- we have it covered now!

-Is more confident in standing, often just leaning her tummy on whatever piece of furniture she's standing at and plays with both hands. She is also reaching a lot more in standing. This morning she got almost everything off of my bedside table!

-Is imitating our actions and doing things on command a bit more (clapping, waving for example)

-Loves to press buttons. I think I moved her away from the DVD player 100 times yesterday! She also presses the buttons on the CD player in her room and occasionally gets the cd to play.

-Had started to 'dance' to music. When she got the CD player on to one of the tracks of white noise with a bit of a beat, she was bopping up and down!

-Loves peekaboo and pat-a-cake.

-Likes to 'chase' with mommy crawling around on the floor with her.

-Has 5 teeth (her two front ones came in this month). The top left lateral incisor is very close too.

-According to our measurements, weighs 25 pounds 8 ounces and is 31.25 inches long. That's above the 95th percentile for both again!

-Has added the 'va' and 'na' sounds to her vocabulary. She imitates when we say 'mama' and 'dada', but she hasn't specifically called us by name yet.

-Has started to trial dairy, and has been eating yogurt and cheese without any problems and likes them a lot. Her favorites continue to be pasta, peas, Cheerios, bananas, and mandarins/clementines.

-Lets us know when she is upset that she doesn't get her way, but it doesn't last long and she is easily distracted. She continues to overall be a very happy, content little girl. When I get home from work she quickly crawls over to me with a big smile on her face, nearly panting in excitement. It's the best!
